BrightPath Supports

Core supports

Community Participation

Getting out of the house and staying connected — social groups, hobbies, sport, volunteering and the ordinary business of being part of a neighbourhood.

Introduction

What this support actually looks like

Community participation is about doing the things you would do anyway if getting there was simpler. That might be a weekly art class, a footy game, a swim, a shift at the local op shop, or just a coffee with someone who is good company.

We start by asking what you actually enjoy, not what programmes we happen to run. Then we work out the transport, the access and the support you need to make it happen regularly rather than once.

Who this may suit

  • You want to get out more but the logistics are the barrier
  • You are looking to build a social circle outside the house
  • You want to try volunteering, a course or a new hobby
  • Confidence in busy or unfamiliar places takes a while to build
  • You would like support that is one-to-one rather than a group programme

Volunteering and work readiness

Finding a role, getting set up and staying in it.

Courses and learning

TAFE, community college, library programmes and short courses.

Building confidence

Practising a route or a place until it stops feeling daunting.

In practice

Example activities

Real examples of how participants use this support week to week.

  • A standing Thursday morning at the Parramatta aquatic centre
  • Learning the bus route to TAFE, then doing it independently
  • A monthly volunteer shift at a community garden in Blacktown
  • Going to a game at the local ground with a worker who is also a fan

Benefits

Why participants stay with us

Based on your interests

We match workers on shared interests wherever we can.

Builds real independence

The goal is fewer supports over time, not more.

Group or one-to-one

Both options, depending on how you like to spend time.

Transport sorted

Travel support is built into the shift, not an afterthought.

Questions

About community participation

It can be either. Some participants prefer one-to-one support to do their own thing, others enjoy a small group. We will not push you into a group programme because it is cheaper to run.

You cover your own entry fees, tickets and meals, and your NDIS funding covers the support worker's time. Workers pay their own way in. We will always tell you the likely cost before we plan something.

That is completely fine and it happens often. Your worker will have a quieter alternative ready, or you can simply use the time at home. Let us know as early as you can if you would rather cancel outright.
