Supported Independent Living

A place to live. Support to live your way.

Ordinary homes in ordinary streets, with the right level of support and housemates you have actually met. Across Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith, Liverpool, Bankstown, the Hills, the Inner West and Western Sydney.

The basics

What is Supported Independent Living?

SIL is NDIS funding for the support you receive inside your home. It covers the workers who help with personal care, meals, medication and household tasks — including overnight, where your plan funds it.

It is worth being clear about what SIL is not. SIL does not pay for the house. Rent or board comes out of your own income, the same as it would for anyone renting. And SIL is not a facility: our homes are regular houses on regular streets, with neighbours who mow their lawns on Sunday.

For most people SIL means sharing with one to three housemates, because pooled support hours stretch further. Individual living options exist too, and we will tell you honestly which your funding is likely to support.

Who SIL may suit

  • You are moving out of the family home for the first time
  • You are leaving hospital or a rehabilitation setting
  • Your current living arrangement is no longer working
  • You need support available overnight
  • You want your own tenancy with support that comes to you
  • Your informal supports are changing and you need a stable base

Our approach

A house runs on the people in it.

The building matters far less than most brochures suggest. What determines whether a home works is whether the housemates get along, whether the staff stay, and whether anyone asks your opinion about how things are run.

So we roster small, consistent teams to each house rather than rotating whoever is available. House meetings happen monthly and participants set the agenda. And we say no to a placement when the match is wrong, even when the bed is empty and the referral is sitting in front of us.

  • Dedicated team per home, not a floating pool
  • Monthly house meetings with participant-led agendas
  • Written house agreements made together, not handed down
  • Behaviour support plans developed with qualified practitioners

Questions

About Supported Independent Living

SIL pays for the support workers who assist you in the home — help with personal care, meals, medication, household tasks and overnight support. It does not pay your rent or board. Those are paid from your own income, usually from the Disability Support Pension, in the same way any tenant pays rent.

No. Most of our homes are shared with one to three housemates because it makes support hours go further, but we also have individual living options where you have your own self-contained space with support available nearby.

We look at daily routines, noise and quiet preferences, interests, communication styles and support needs. Then we arrange a coffee, then a visit to the house, then usually an overnight or weekend stay. Nobody signs anything until everyone has met.

Of course. It is your home. Visitors are welcome, and there is nothing unusual about family staying for a meal. We ask housemates to agree some basic ground rules together so everyone gets reasonable notice and quiet time.

You can. Your residency agreement sets out the notice period, usually four weeks. We will support the transition, including helping you look at other options, whether they are ours or another provider's.

From first enquiry to moving in is commonly six to twelve weeks. That covers the assessment, matching, house visits, funding confirmation with the NDIA and the practical business of moving. We will give you a realistic timeline at the first conversation, not an optimistic one.
